Tungaloy Corporation, manufacturer of carbide cutting tools, friction materials, wear resistant items, and civil engineering products, has announced expansions to several of its product lines.
DoPent
Tungaloy has expanded its DoPent face milling cutter series with the addition of neutral AJ Type inserts for non-ferrous metal machining. The series features economical double-sided pentagonal inserts with 10 cutting edges, designed for face milling operations. DoPent offers significant reductions in cutting force (by 30%) and radial forces (by 50%) compared to competitors, thanks to its large rake angle and optimal insert positioning. This makes it especially suitable for machining thin and low-rigidity workpieces. The series also includes the SS-FiT mechanism, which increases rigidity and allows for more inserts on the cutter body without compromising body rigidity, enabling high-efficiency machining. Cutter bodies are available in both bore and shank types, with tool diameters ranging from φ32 to φ315 mm (from φ1.260” to φ12.40”), including left-hand body options for use in double-headed milling machines. The insert lineup includes six types: the general-purpose MJ Type, low cutting force ML Type, and wiper inserts. Neutral inserts are also available for use with left-hand cutter bodies.
The new neutral AJ Type inserts for non-ferrous metals join this lineup. Like their right-hand counterparts, these new inserts feature ground peripheral surfaces and polished rake faces with a mirror-like finish for sharp cutting edges. This prevents built-up edges during machining and achieves a high-quality, glossy finish. The large rake angle and deep inclination ensure excellent chip control with both right-hand and left-hand cutter bodies. The insert grade is KS05F, a micro-grain cemented carbide that balances wear resistance and toughness, providing exceptional reliability and long tool life for machining aluminum, copper alloys, and other non-ferrous metals.
With the addition of the new AJ Type inserts, the DoPent series will significantly reduce machining costs and improve productivity for customers across various industries, handling a wide range of materials from steel and cast iron to non-ferrous metals.
TPW/EPW milling cutter series
The company has also added CBN inserts for high-speed cast iron finishing to its TPW/EPW Type milling cutter series. The TPW/EPW Type series features a 4-corner insert design that balances sharpness and edge strength, enabling high-precision, high-efficiency machining. With a 90° cutting edge angle (KAPR), these cutters excel not only in square shoulder milling but also in face milling around obstacles and fixtures. The inserts are available in four types, including the versatile MJ Type, ensuring stable performance across a wide range of materials. The cutter bodies come in both bore type TPW Type and shank type EPW Type, covering tool diameters from φ32 to φ200mm (from φ1.260” to φ7.874”). Additionally, both coarse pitch type and close pitch type are available, allowing users to select the optimal tool based on their machining conditions.
The expansion of the CBN inserts for high-speed cast iron finishing will enable the TPW/EPW Type cutters to significantly contribute to reducing machining time and improving productivity across a wider range of industries through high-efficiency machining.
DoMultiRec
Finally, Tungaloy has introduced the AM Type insert for non-ferrous metal machining to DoMultiRec, a multi-functional milling cutter with a center cutting edge capable of a wide range of operations, from drilling and shoulder milling to pocket/cavity milling. By optimizing the arrangement of the inserts, the front cutting edge becomes almost flat, achieving a high flatness on the bottom during drilling, making it ideal for counterboring operations. Additionally, the inserts can be used for both center and peripheral cutting edges, with two cutting edges for center cutting and two for peripheral cutting, allowing a total of four corners per insert, making it highly economical.
The addition of the AM Type insert to the DoMultiRec series will greatly contribute to tool consolidation and productivity improvement for a wider range of industries.
