EMO is an acronym for Exposition Mondiale de la Machine-Outil, which translates to Machine Tool World Exposition – exactly what attendees can expect to see, technology from around the world. The 2023 EMO took place in Hannover, Germany September 18-23 and featured 1,850 exhibitors and 92,500 visitors.

So, during the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS 2024), EMO Hanover organizer VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association) held a breakfast with a panel discussion about why to attend EMO Hanover 2025, which is always held on the off years from IMTS.

Jochen Arnold, president of EMAG LLC, a long-term exhibitor based in Michigan; Mike Dreher, vice president – global manufacturing technology at Allied Machine & Engineering Corp, Dover, Ohio; and Dr. Markus Heering, executive director of EMO organizer VDW made up the panel which was moderated by Mark Denzler, president and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association.

“EMO is synonymous with innovation, internationality, inspiration, and the future of metalworking. Customers and users from the United States will have a unique opportunity in Hanover in 2025 to meet new and interesting suppliers, expand their network, and find out how users from all over the world are overcoming challenges in production,” Heering said.

During the panel discussion Dreher noted that EMO has been a must-attend event for years. “The diversity of expertise, innovations from various sectors, and the broad spectrum of product categories make EMO Hanover an unmissable event for all players in the metalworking industry. Important connections and collaborations are created here that help us to continuously optimize our production processes.”

Dreher was also quick to note that you “need to look closely at your organization to know what you need. It’s important to understand those needs so you make the right connections at EMO Hanover to maximize your time at the show.”

“You want to be a partner and build long-term relationships with companies,” Arnold said. “EMAG wants to be that partner so you want to set up an appointment with us before you go to the show and let us know what your needs are to maximize your time and so we can be there ready with solutions to your problems.”

Another suggestion from Dreher was to go out of the realm of what your company does and look at all the pavilions – especially the ones that may be doing processes you don’t do at your company but that can spark new, creative ideas of how they would fit into your operations.

As Herring concluded toward the end of the event, the future of production will look different year after year as new, advanced technologies come to the forefront. “Just look at how much software has changed in five years, 10 years. EMO is the exhibit that is there to help attendees stay abreast of the latest advancements that are innovating manufacturing.”

Next year is also a very special EMO year. Every two years for the past 50 years, the trade fair has regularly attracted the who’s who of the global metalworking industry, both exhibitors and visitors. “Over the years, EMO has established itself as an indispensable platform for the future of metalworking. At a time when automation, digitalization, and sustainability are revolutionizing the industry, EMO is the place where innovation becomes tangible,” says Ryan Martin, senior research director at ABI Research. EMO has continuously evolved in recent years to meet the changing needs of the metalworking industry.

EMO Hanover 2025 will once again feature an exciting supporting program. This includes a central, high-caliber forum that focuses on a different industry trend topic each day of the trade fair under the motto Innovate Manufacturing. Special exhibitions, expert presentations, workshops, live demonstrations, and special areas for start-ups and innovations round off the information on offer.
